A step towards year-round well-being.
At Admind, our social impact activities revolve around monthly themes, each chosen with purpose and care. Inspired by World Mental Health Day on October 10, we dedicated the month to raising awareness about mental well-being. Embracing this year’s theme, “Mental Health at Work,” we launched a variety of internal initiatives aimed at fostering understanding, support, and well-being in our workplace.
In recent years, we’ve observed growing awareness in the area of mental health – also in the workplace. Conscious employers realize that employees’ mental well-being significantly influences their productivity, engagement, and satisfaction, resulting in individual and organizational success.
But since 2018, in a world of growing geopolitical tensions and economic pressure, the number of people with various mental disorders has increased from 792 million to 970 million. This means that one in eight people worldwide lives with a mental disorder. Also, 75% of employees report experiencing burnout at some point.[1] And according to WHO, around 280 million people have depression.[2]
With these alarming numbers, it’s clear that we should break the stigma and educate ourselves and others without shaming and tabooing so that more and more people get support when they need it. That’s why Admind’s team for social impact activities organized three events for our employees – to provide them with information and valuable tactics and tips.
1. “Bringing mindfulness to work” webinar
Are tight deadlines, workplace conflicts, or unexpected challenges overwhelming you? What if there was a simple way to stay calm, focused, and in control? Enter mindfulness – a powerful practice that helps you pause, gain clarity, and confidently respond. Recognizing its potential, we wanted to explore this topic and highlight its benefits for Adminders.
Luckily, we have an expert onboard: fellow Adminder Alia Sallam. She is a mindfulness enthusiast with over a decade of experience in meditation and a passion for building communities around this transformative practice. Alia joined us for an insightful webinar where she shared her expertise on how mindfulness can elevate our work lives.
During the session, Alia unpacked the essence of mindfulness, its proven benefits, and practical ways to incorporate it into our daily routines. The takeaways were both eye-opening and actionable, with experience-based tips that left us inspired. Best of all, we learned that practising mindfulness doesn’t have to be complicated – simple actions like focusing on your breath or taking a brief mindful pause can make a difference.
2. “Let’s talk about… Mental health” webinar
“Let’s Talk About…” is Admind’s internal, monthly webinar series where we dive into thought-provoking topics that matter. In October, we turned our attention to a vital question: How can we help others without burning out?
To shed light on this, we invited Olga Lany, Admind’s PR & Partnership Manager and a renowned activist in Krakow’s community. With her unique perspective, Olga shared her journey into activism – what inspired her to start, the rewards it brings, and the hurdles she’s faced along the way.
From navigating feelings of overwhelm to managing the inevitable challenges like limited resources and the desire to help everyone, Olga didn’t just recount her story – she equipped us with practical insights. She emphasized the delicate balance between activism, work, and personal life, reminding us that sustainable support starts with caring for ourselves.
While not everyone can dedicate themselves to activism, Olga’s advice resonated deeply with anyone seeking to support others while safeguarding their well-being. Her thoughtful approach inspired us all to find ways to make a difference without compromising our inner peace.
3. Psychiatrist’s lecture on insomnia
When it comes to tackling complex issues like insomnia, turning to experts is always the best approach. We invited Andrzej Juryk, MD, PhD, a distinguished psychiatrist with over 15 years of experience treating adult patients in University hospitals and private medical centres, to host an engaging webinar.
Dr. Juryk brought his wealth of knowledge and hands-on expertise to the session, offering a deep dive into the causes, mechanisms, symptoms, and far-reaching impacts of insomnia. He also explored evidence-based treatment options, providing attendees with practical insights from his extensive clinical experience.
The session concluded with an interactive Q&A, where participants could ask pressing questions and gain further clarity on this complex condition. It was an enlightening discussion that underscored the importance of seeking expert guidance for better health and well-being.
October at Admind marked an essential chapter in our ongoing journey to prioritize mental well-being. Through webinars on mindfulness, balancing activism with self-care, and understanding insomnia, we provided our team with valuable tools and insights to navigate mental health challenges. However, we are all aware that this is just the beginning – mental health deserves attention and care every day of the year.
